The Aneta Community Orchard and Garden was the place to be on Saturday when Marilyn Hagerty visited. Remember Marilyn Hagerty is the Grand Forks Herald columnist who went went viral last year when she wrote a review of the Grand Forks Olive Garden. She was named the Grand Forks Herald person of the year. It was an honor and a pleasure to have her in our midst.
Marilyn came to see our orchard, even though it is a baby orchard, and to visit our gardens inside the fence.
It is hard to believe that just a year ago, this was a hayfield. There have been hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars spent to get it to where it is today. Our community has worked hard and diligently. Janice, who has attained the Master Gardener designation from the North Dakota Extension Service, contacted Marilyn Hagerty to see if she would be interested in visiting the site.
Marilyn was accompanied by her friend Ruth, who is a flower gardener at her summer home in Bemidji. Ruth especially enjoyed the many old fashioned flowers growing in the garden plots
Several people followed Marilyn down the garden path as she looked over the tree plantings and plots.
Bill, who leads and mentors the Aneta volunteers, sat with Marilyn on a bench and discussed the orchard and garden. She was taking notes and we are hoping for a column in the Grand Forks Herald.
It was a perfect Summer day, as Marilyn put it, "Not too anything." It was not to hot or cold, wet or dry, windy or humid. It was a great day too buzz around the Aneta Community Orchard and Garden in GriggsDakota.
