Eyes and cameras can play tricks. This is not a smoking street light.
It is a windblown vapor trail on a warm March evening which tricked me in feeling like Summer.
There is a lonely Turkey wandering around in the yards of GriggsDakota.
There used to be flocks of turkey in our yards. Grandpa Sonny estimates 40-50 in all. But the Winter of 2010-2011 was long and took its toll on birds and wildlife. There are coyotes howling from all directions around here at night. Whatever the explanation, the Tom is now alone.
He has spent the Winter calling from the trees, but now is wandering over hill and down through ditches, looking for someone who understands his turkey tweets.
Cattleman Jim told me that this Tom was very excited when he saw geese standing on the frozen lake. He ran out onto the ice calling every step of the way. It had to be a lonely moment when he realized that the birds would never be part of his turkey flock.
A cruel trick.
During a time that has been full of tricks in GriggsDakota.
