There are happy cows in GriggsDakota this winter.
To see cattle laying down on the bare ground in the middle of February indicates that the ground is pretty warm. The days have been lovely.
The cattle contentedly wander around on the fields, gleaning whatever is left.
If there is sufficient trash from last year's crop, there is a bit of snow on the ground. It is not enough to deter the cows from walking wherever they please.
What is the most beautiful element in the landscape photo above?
There is plenty of hay in GriggsDakota.
The harsher the winter, the more feed the cattle need. It also takes time and energy for Cattleman Jim to move snow and keep hay and straw available.
This mild dry winter has taken less feed. It has been an easy task to roll out a round bale of hay or straw for the cattle to enjoy.
And that is why both cattle and Cattleman Jim are smiling in GriggsDakota.
