Some of you know that we are planning a new shelter belt in GriggsDakota.
Part of the preparation is cleaning out the dead wood in the single row of trees that were planted about 50 years ago.
Farmer Fred has been taking the chain saw out to clean out the obviously dead and fallen trees.
Butler thinks it's entirely too noisy, but he can't help hanging around to supervise.
Farmer Fred wears his sound reducing ear protectors as he runs the saw. Some of the trees have already fallen and we want to get those out of the way before Spring when the Soil Conservation District will arrive to plant the trees. Some are obviously dead and losing their bark, they will be next.
The project will continue, as time allows, until the snow is too deep to access the trees.
Butler keeps his nose on alert, just in case we disturb something that he can chase.
The wood is making for a warm and cozy home fire in GriggsDakota.
