It was Turkey Barbecue weekend in our little town and we are happy to report that the weather once again cooperated and a good time was had by all in GriggsDakota. This event was documented here a couple of years ago. Click here to visit the event in more detail.
Robbie is one of the cooks at the event. The number of turkeys roasted in the city park is greater than the population in the town, so farmers from the area happily pitch in.
Grandpa Sonny, who has attended all 51 barbecues, oversees the turkey roasting, but lets the younger backs carry the load.
The Ag Analyst and the Farm Inspector were on hand to be sure things were done right. They especially enjoyed the view from the top of the slide. Vienna learned just how a turkey barbecue is done.
This year they added a tractor pull to the events on Saturday.
We aren't experts on tractor pulls, but really enjoyed the show. Many of the tractors were waxed and shining.
But that is not a requirement. It's all about the pulling ratio of each tractor. They start with a weight on a drag and more weight is added as they travel down the track as men who have weighed in, step on in specified intervals.
I think this will become an annual event.
Turkey dinners were served to 2800 people beginning at 4:30 pm. The third Saturday in June is always the day. We start with a talent show on Friday and end with an All Faith Service in the Park on Sunday morning. The Farm Inspector and 2799 others, left with smiles on their faces.
