The sign makes it official.
There is flooding in GriggsDakota.
It's raining and melting.
The air temperature is just above freezing.
Which is causing the lake
To flow across the road.
The flow is too fast to drive through the water, there is a good chance the road has washed out or is too soft to hold up a vehicle.
The melted snow is flowing in to the frozen lake which cannot move all this water to the river.
There is still snow in sheltered areas.
So the inflow will continue.
We drove for miles to get across on open roads.
Last week there was snow here and the culvert had been dug out to prepare for this.
The culvert was doing its job and the road here was open.
There had been water over the road.
But the culverts in this area are now able to keep up.
We have a new and improved culvert to put in, but the lake level has to be low enough to dig it down. That didn't happen last summer.
We are waiting for the lake to thaw in GriggsDakota.
