Lessons from the Court

A basketball game seems like a simple thing to a boy.
Adults know it takes the commitment of hundreds to pull off a simple weekend tournament for young players. It takes volunteer organizers, parents and coaches. The boy, however, has a chance to learn many lessons.
The boy learns that going places and doing things in life is fun.
It takes officials.
The boy learns respect, responsibility, and fair play.
It takes encouragement.
The boy learns he is more Shaq than Kobe.
It takes planning.
The boy learns to follow instructions.
It takes a big team of adults to manage these small teams.
The boy learns to keep his eye on the ball.
And sometimes there is a bonus.
