Testing the Treatments

Earlier this Spring, Farmer Fred was given starter boxes by EMD Crop Biosciences. These glass sided wooden boxes are designed to allow seeds to germinate and grow. The glass is covered to simulate a normal growing environment, then the covering is removed for observation and analysis.
Bill, our horticulturist, used them to check various seed treatments on corn and soybeans.
Bill didn't draw any conclusions that he was willing to share, but I took the photos to illustrate that this type of research is being done in GriggsDakota and many other farms in GreaterDakota. That is the purpose of Test Plots that are commonly marked in fields with variety signs along highways later in the season. Significant observations from testing is discussed with professional researchers in private industry and at our State University. Farmers are dedicated to improving our methods and process. In GriggsDakota we have made a commitment to try new methods and grow the best crops possible each season that we operate this farm. We are dedicated to finding superior methods and produce affordable healthy food. Our goal is for every person in the world to be able to say, as Scarlett O'Hara did:  "I'll never be hungry again!"
